• They Found Jacob

So on Saturday the news was released that they found the body of Jacob Wetterling. I don’t know how big of story his abducted was nationally, but here in Minnesota it was huge. We were on our way to the Minnesota State Fair when we heard the news. Shortly after hearing the news, we drove right by the location he was abducted at. It’s no longer a convenience store. It’s now a veterinarian clinic.

I remember the day he was abducted. At the time I was a ninth grader in northern Minnesota. We had a current events class and the two biggest events that year were the Burlin Wall coming down and the Jacob Wetterling abduction. It’s amazing that 27 years later, the guy they caught looks just like the police sketchings from 1989. They new who it was all along, they just couldn’t find any evidence.

After my freshman year of high school, we moved to the St. Cloud area, the area where Jacob lived. It was even a bigger deal down there. They even named a newly built bridge “The Bridge of Hope”, in his memory. I later dated a girl that was in Jacobs class. She lived not too far from that convenience store. In fact we walked together to that convenience store a few times, just like Jacob did. Every time we thought about Jacob.

They nabbed the abductor on child porn charges. He’ll probably be spending the rest of his life behind bars just for the porn charges. He made some sort of deal and told authorities where the body was buried. He actually worked with my wife’s aunt for eight years. He was arrested at work. It’s crazy to think how someone could hide that for all these years. He was actually a pretty smart criminal. They new he did it, but could never prove anything. But like all sick bastards, it eventually catches up with them.

  • Hate the Hate

Why is the world so full of hate? I do my best to avoid all the mass shooting news. Nothing is going to change, because nobody wants to do anything about it. Welcome to American, the world leader in mass shootings.

I have a bunch of family in the Orlando area who have been silent on Facebook. It’s probably for the better. I would hate to see what they had to say. My family is mostly right wing Trump fans. It’s probably better that they keep their mouths shut.

One of my favorite artists Allison Weiss is playing in Orlando tonight. I really feel for her. I’m sure the shooting of Christina Grimmie and then the mass shooting in the gay club really hit home for her; herself being a gay singer.

She is opening for Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties. I wish I could be there. It will be a magical show fill with love. That’s what we need right now.

  • My take on the Aurora tragedy

I’ve been reading Twitter all day, but couldn’t come up with words that haven’t already been said about today’s tragedy. I use to live in Aurora. Now that city will forever be attached to this horrible event just like Littleton is.

What drives me nuts about these events is how different groups are quick to blame, or use the tragedy to force their agenda. People will blame video games, movies, TV, or even Marilyn Manson. The right blames gun control and believe this wouldn’t happen if everybody was carrying a gun. The left thinks we need more gun control to keeps the guns off the streets.

I’m not a gun guy, but I think our gun laws are probably just fine. With the exception to assault rifles that is. Is there a logical reason to own an assault rifle? Stricter gun laws would only punish the 99.9% of the responsible gun owners. The criminals will always find their way to get guns. We shouldn’t let dumbasses limit the rights of honest Americans.

In reality we will probably never know what causes these tragedies, but one thing we could try is not making these guys famous. The cable news networks are always looking for big stories, so when something like this happens they sensationalize the shit out of them, turning the shooter into a celebrity. This can’t be good, and a simple change in reporting could prevent future shootings without taking away any innocent person’s rights.

The sad reality is that this is the cost of freedom. As long as we have our freedoms, things like this are going to happen. To put it into perspective, there are probably 100s of people killed in car accidents daily, and who know how many horrific events that happen in other countries that don’t make our news.

Also, did you notice that the terrorism word hasn’t come up? Probably because it was a white guy, but that’s another story.

  • Casey Anthony? Who cares?

So Casey Anthony was found not guilty. Who the hell cares? Apparently everybody. I honestly first heard of her just this past weekend. Frankly I avoid all exploitive news like this.

Personally I feel happy for Casey Anthony. Now I know nothing about her, or the trial, but obviously there must have been some doubt. I would rather see our judicial system fail this way, rather than filling prisons with innocent people that couldn’t prove they were innocent. She was found guilty of four counts of lying to the police, which was probably much easier to prove, and will do time for that.

Maybe Casey Anthony is guilty and got off, but realistically she isn’t a threat to society. She will have to live with whatever she did for the rest of her life. It may haunt her, it may not, but chances are she isn’t going to end up killing anybody else. My personal belief is that prisons should be used more to protect society from crazy people and less of a punishment. Obviously most people don’t have this opinion and our prisons are overflowing with inmates costing out country millions of dollars, but that’s another issue.

What really makes me sick is everybody making money off of this. Because of the coverage this case has gotten, chances are that Casey Anthony herself is going to be able to cash in also. With out the coverage she wouldn’t be able to. Now I don’t really blame the media companies because they are just broadcasting what people want to see and watch. We just live in a sick society that just wants to see revenge. People want to see people punished and put to death. I don’t get it. Maybe that’s why I don’t pay attention to this kind of news. I find it sad when people are found guilty. I was even sad when Timothy McVeigh was put to death, even though he deserved it. I would never celebrate somebody being incarcerated or put to death. I’m just not that kind of person.
