Dear Believer: Why Do You Believe?
In this video Brandon Fibbs asks some of the same questions I asked myself when I first started questioning religion way back before I was confirmed. I still just went through the motions and got confirmed to make my family happy. Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like had I stood up for my beliefs.

Truth in religion
Religion has always interested me to a point, but anytime I read anything about any religion, it bores me to hell. I’ve tried reading the Bible, but to me it’s pretty much unreadable. Why people call it “The Good Book”, boggles my mind. It’s anything but.
What really interests me about religions is if any of it is based on actual truths? Did any of these people really exists? Most of the stories in the Bible are obvious made up myths, but is there any truth? I haven’t ran across any good books about the historic accuracy of any religious text yet, but I haven’t really looked either. Are they all bunk or just too old to really know? I don’t know.
One thing I’ve always heard is that atheists know more about Christianity than most Christians do. I pretty sure I don’t, but I was surprised at my result of this quiz. I know it doesn’t mean much, but I got 14 or of 15. Not to bad for someone who knows very little about religions.

Don’t be fooled today and be skeptical everyday
So it’s April 1st, that day that it sucks to be on the internet. The day when nothing is true and nobody is fooled. People are really skeptical of everything today. Too bad everybody wasn’t this skeptical the rest of the year.
People should really be more skeptical about everything. If something is too good to be true, then it probably is. If something sounds crazy, you should listen to both sides of the story. There is probably a reasonable explanation for every crazy thing you here. So many people are fooled by charlatans, alt-med pushers, or other pseudoscience promoters. People need to learn to be skeptical the other 364 days too. Be smart. Don’t let them fool you.

Overly-Honest Product Stickers
When I hear someone say they are eating healthy because they are eating “organic” I just cringe. Just because something is labeled “organic” doesn’t make it more healthy. It pretty much means you just paid more for it. Technically almost all foods are organic. Anything containing carbon is organic. The food industry has hijacked the word to give the impression that a product is better, safer or healthier, when none of those are true.
The other labels I can’t stand are “Chemical-free”? What the hell is it then? And “Natural”? Isn’t everything Natural? Where the hell do you find “un-natural” food?
Steve D over at madartlab.com made up some great overly-honest product labels. I love them.
He also added a homeopathic one in the comment section.
I love them. You can go to madartlab.com to get the higher quality versions.

Donate to the documentary about James Randi
I’m so looking forward to the completion of this documentary. The creators, Justin Weinstein & Tyler Measom are hoping to get it finished by years end. You can help by donating to their Kickstarter.
James Randi is one of my heroes, and I think many people have never even heard of him. It would be great to have this documentary to show the Amazingness that is Randi.

HFCS or Sugar
A day probably doesn’t go by without me hearing some fear mongering over high fructose corn syrup. Should you eat the stuff? No, just like sugar, you should try to avoid it when possible, but it’s not a toxic poison.
In the above video, the latest episode of inFact, Brian Dunning doesn’t go too in-depth about the science, but does explain the difference between HFCS and sugar, quite well.
