Bon Jovi Concert

So we went to the Bon Jovi concert last night. I haven’t really listened to them since the 80s, but they were one of my favorites back then. As a result I don’t know any of their newer stuff. The start of the concert was awesome. They were mixing old song with some better new songs that weren’t too bad. In the middle it got pretty lame though. They had a pretty long stretch of some crappy Christian sounding songs. For a while there it felt like were were in church. They ended much better, but not without a few of my pet peeves. They did two encores. I can’t stand encores. They are just a waste of time that they could fit in another song or two. More and more bands are not doing encores, but sadly most still do. Another thing that bugs me is when a band saves their biggest hit for last. I know you want to go out with a bang, but saving “Livin’ on a Prayer” for the last song annoyed me for some reason.

Dashboard Confessional were the opening band, and they were good as usual, but it kinda sucked because we were so far away. They didn’t have any cameras on them so it was really hard to see anything, and they didn’t even play “Screaming Infidelities”. WTF!? They need to come back to Fargo and play at The Venue.

All in all is was a pretty good concert. Not the best, but what do you expect in that large of venue. I have never been a fan of large stadium concerts. The smaller the venue the better in my book.

I’m not a fan of OK Go’s music, but they do make some pretty damn good videos. Their newest video is a big Rube Goldberg machine. Some of it looks like it’s faked, but it’s still a pretty good video.

Crazy Family

This past weekend was our annual family birthday get together since my Brother and I both have February birthdays. I love my family, but spending too much time with them drives me crazy. I get along fine with them as long as topics stay away from politics, religion, or anything medical related. Both my Mom and Brother think they are far smarter than me because they completed more college that I did. You can’t argue with them because they think they are always right, and they believe in some really wacky things.

My Brother is a chiropractor nutjob. He is pretty much against all medicines. He thinks adjustments, and supplements cure everything. Who knows how much money they spend on all the herbal crap that doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t bother me as much what they do to themselves since they are adults and can think for themselves. I worry more about their kid. They have a four month old and he has some sort of rash on his face that looks like eczema. They have been trying to cure it with crazy stuff like green tea and fish oils, and of course they aren’t doing anything for it. Hopefully my Sister-in-law can talk some sense into my Brother and bring him to a doctor, but she also believe in a lot of that crazy stuff.

I have done all I can to try and talk some sense into them. Maybe someday they will wake up and not think that “big pharma” is evil and all about making money, but until then I will just keep my mouth shut and shake my head.

Quirky Ukulele Music

For some reason I have really been into quirky ukulele music lately. First it was YouTuber Molly Lewis. She has some awesome videos on YouTube, and has even played with Jonathan Coulton. She has an album on iTunes, and it is definitely worth the $6.93.

Then today Motion City Soundtrack’s blog introduced me to the greatness that is Garfunkel and Oats. You can listen to all their songs and watch a bunch of videos on their website. It was another easy iTunes purchase for me.
