So I barely know who Miley Cyrus is, but I watched her stupid little rap about her quitting Twitter. The other night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Fallon dressed up like Billy Ray Cyrus and made his own rap video. It’s hilarious. I have always loved Jimmy Fallon. He’s pretty damn funny.
While I’m not from Fosston, I have driven through Fosston and do know people from Fosston, so I thought this was rather funny. Anybody from a small northern Minnesota town would probably get a kick out of this video too.
So have known who Amanda Paler is for quite some time. I never thought to check out her solo album because I was never much of a fan the Dresden Dolls. Today I heard my first Amanda Palmer song and fell in love with it. I think I will be getting her solo album and looking in the Dresden Dolls a little more.
Here is the video for the song I heard.
Pretty awesome, but something tells me that if MTV played videos these days, they wouldn’t play this one.
**Update**
It’s been an Amanda Palmer day for me today. I found out she is on twitter @amandapalmer, and she wrote a lengthy blog post about her video.
It would be cool to see water instantly freeze, but frankly, I didn’t want to spend much time outside yesterday. Today it’s been warming up all day. It has warmed up to -9ºF already. I am not sure how cold it has to be for that trick to work. Maybe I should try it today?
A new Motion City Soundtrack video came out today. It is for the acoustic version of “Fell In Love Without You”. It’s pretty cool seeing Minnesota license plates on the cars. I am guessing the video was shot by a lake somewhere in Minnesota.
I can never get enough of this band. I have seen them six times, and can’t wait to see them again. Last time we saw them we got to meet the lead singer Justin, and I took a picture of him with my wife, remember? I sure do.
So if you haven’t heard, Weird Al is going to be releasing his songs online now as he completes them instead of saving them up for an album. Here is his newest song. Supposedly it’s a parody, but I have never heard the original.
Is the original a popular song? I have no idea. I am a big music fan, but I have no idea with what is going on with mainstream music. In fact I don’t think I have ever heard the original from Weird Al’s last hit “White & Nerdy”, which I think is a much better song than this one. Here it is if you don’t remember.
I have yet another new music video to share with you. This time it’s the only “Country” band that I like, if you can call it country. They do, but I’m not so sure about that. It’s Tumbledown, the country side project of Mike Herrera from MXPX.
I am a big Jack’s Mannequin fan. I have been looking forward to another album from them for quite some time. Well, tomorrow is finally the day. Here is the first video off their newest album:
My newest CD is from one of my favorite bands Punchline. They just released their first video off of the album. I thought I would share the love here. Enjoy!
I love The Hush Sound. I have all their CDs and I have seen them in concert twice. I saw this video a couple days ago and can’t get this song out of my head.
Another thing I played around with over the weekend was streaming Netflix videos to my TV. I am sure a lot of you have heard about the Netflix streaming box from Roku. Well, you can do pretty much the same thing with a media center PC. There is a plug-in for Windows Media Center called vmcNetFlix. It allows you to watch streaming Netflix videos in Windows Media Center. I was able to watch streaming Netflix movies on my XBox 360. The software is a little slow and buggy, but for the most part worked really well. The quality wasn’t quite DVD quality, but that is Netflix’s problem mostly caused by the slow internets we have here in the US. It was more like standard definition TV quality. I don’t know if I would watch a movie this way, but it works great for TV shows. I watched and old episode of Criss Angel Mine Freak and it was quite enjoyable. I love having more and more ways to view what I want when I want.
So Weezer’s new album came out today. I picked it up at Best Buy for $18, kinda expensive, but hey, it’s Weezer. I haven’t had much time to listen to it yet, but here is a cool version of “Pork and Beans” sung by Tay Zonday of the “Chocolate Rain” fame.
