Smoke Alarm Saved the House

Today I threw a potato into the microwave for lunch and went back to the computer room. Then I heard the smoke alarm blaring so I ran to the kitchen and my potato was in flames in the microwave. I wish I could have gotten a picture of it, but I was more worried about not burning the house down. I tried another potato and stopped it before it burst into flames. It was way overcooked after 8 minutes and was ready to burst into flames. The wife said she cooks potatoes for 10 minutes. I think there is something wrong with our microwave. That sucks because it is less that a year old, but it is so black from the fire I think I would rather buy a new one than try and clean it.

Yikes. I’ve never had issues cooking spuds in the microwave. And I’ve done it a lot. My microwave even has a ‘Potato’ button on it.

When I do a “baked” potato, I generally leave it in for between 4-5 minutes. And that’s a good size tator. If I do “boiled” potatoes, I cut ’em up and put ’em in a bowl of water and cook ’em for about 8 -10 minutes. Turn out perfect every time. In fact, that’s how I made some for supper tonite.
