Flashback Friday: Dinosaur Jr. – “Start Choppin”
Dinosaur Jr. wasn’t a new band in the 90s, but they were new to me, and were one of my favorites.

Flashback Friday: Violent Femmes – “Breakin’ Up”
The Violent Femmes had bigger hits in the 80s, and I was a fan back then, but in the early 90s the video for “Breakin’ Up” was all over MTV. It sure brings back some memories.

Flashback Friday: Smashing Pumpkins – “Rhinoceros”
Life got a little crazy with houseguests moving out, Grandma’s Funeral, and a little vacation at a lake, so I had a little unplanned blogging vacation. Today I am back with another edition of my “Flashback Friday”.
I remember the day when I first saw the video for “Rhinoceros”. It was 1992, my senior year of high school. I was a fan and hooked right away. The next year they released Siamese Dream, and the rest is history. Siamese Dream was basically the soundtrack to my freshman year of college. The music was so great back then, or at least that is my excuse of why I sucked at college that year. there was just too much good music to listen to.

Flashback Friday: Porno For Pyros – “Pets”
After Jane’s Addiction broke up, Perry Farrell’s next band was Porno For Pyros. This video really brings me back to the good old days of 120 Minutes on Mtv.

Flashback Friday: Soul Asylum – “Black Gold”
I fell in love with Soul Asylum the second I heard “Black Gold”. Little did I know at the time that they were from Minnesota, and just released their sixth album. I was a little upset that they latest album released in 2006 didn’t get any play because it’s a damn good album. Soul Asylum is still around playing a handful of shows a year. They are a great live band, and I try to see them every chance I get.

Flashback Friday: Belly – “Feed the Trees”
Another of my favorite songs from the 90s.
-
Flashback Friday: Bjork – “Human Behaviour”
I was never much of a Bjork fan, but this video takes me right back to the early 90s. It got some major MTV play, probably too much back then. -
Flashback Friday: Sugar – “If I Can’t Change Your Mind”
I never got into Hüsker Dü in the 80s, but Sugar was one of my favorite bands in the early 90s. Sadly they only produced a couple of albums, but I have liked all of Bob Mould’s stuff since. It was also cool to hear his voice on the latest Foo Fighters album.

Flashback Friday: Sonic Youth – “Bull in the Heather”
I became a Sonic Youth fan a few years before “Bull in the Heather” came out on Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star in 1994, but “Bull in the Heather” was probably the first Sonic Youth video to get some major play on Mtv. Hearing it instantly takes me back to my freshmen year of college.

Flashback Friday?: Pavement – “Cut Your Hair”
So after one week I totally forgot about my Flashback Fridays. I blame Rebecca Black.
This week it’s one of my all time favorite Pavement songs, “Cut Your Hair”.
