• Rare Blog About Work

I hate when people complain that they don’t blog enough, so I won’t do that. I feel like I have been in a little rut lately. My mind is full of things I want to blog about, but when I sit down at my computer I get sucked into reading my feeds, and watching and listening to all my podcasts, and I never remember what I was going to blog about. Today I didn’t forget. I worked all day so it’s a rare blog about work.

Today was a busy ass day at work. One of our chemical feed systems broke down and had to be cleaned in order to be fixed. It took me a couple hours to clean it, which then makes a mess of the floor so you have to clean that too. I got it all cleaned up, then the mechanics fixed it and left a big mess on the floor. It pisses me off when people don’t clean up after themselves. It only took me ten minutes to clean up after them, but still, I hate leaning up after people.

So that’s what was on my mind today. Not much, but hey, at least it was something.

  • My Bandwidth Usage

There has been a lot of talk around the internets about Comcast’s bandwidth caps. They are going to start caping users soon at 250GB. While I think bandwidth caps are horrible, 250GBs is quite a bit. I think a person would have to work really hard to reach that amount.

I have been curious how much bandwidth I am using for quite some time. There is software you can use to find out with one computer, but my network is a little more complicated. I have five computers along with my XBox and Vonage router all using bandwidth. The only way to figure out bandwidth usage with all of my devices would be within the router. My router doesn’t have a way to monitor bandwidth. It’s a newer WRT54G that can’t be upgraded to the DD-WRT or Tomato Firmware. It has been really flaky lately though. It locks up a couple times a week. Yesterday it locked up five time, so I ordered a new one. This time I got a Linksys WRT54GL, which will support upgraded firmware.

In a couple of months I should know what my monthly bandwidth usage is. Then I will know had ridiculous Comcast’s caps are. My theory is they are caping their internet users to discourage them from using the internet to get their media, and encourage them to use their TVs more. It’s probably not that big of deal now, but more and more people are moving to the internet for their media content. As the quality of that content gets higher and higher, then more and more people will be approaching that cap, and not watching that cable TV that Comcast wants you to watch.

  • Last Brother-in-law Update

He is OUT!! He Finally moved out. He is now at his Aunt’s until January. Hopefully he grows up by then. It will be so nice not having to pick up after him, and having the phone ringing at all hours of the day and night. It seems so peaceful here already.

  • High School Memories

It has been 16 years since I was playing high school football. I remember it like it was yesterday. Every year when August comes around I miss it. Today I thought I would check and see how my old team is doing. It’s so weird looking at the football team now. New school, field, team name, coach, uniforms, conference, everything has changed. They don’t play any of the teams that we had great rivalries against. It’s just weird.

While I was checking them out, I saw of video of the marching band. I was also a band geek in high school. It brought me to tears when I saw that they were playing the same song that we played when we marched. It was a different version, and they look a hell of a lot better than we were, but it was awesome to see the tradition of The Phantom of the Opera is still alive.

  • Politics

So politics seem to be on everybody’s minds lately. I keep up with what’s going on and stuff, but I am no political junky. I hate discussing it because it just starts fights. It’s not like you can change someone else’s ideas anyway.

I haven’t watched any of the DNC coverage. I just have better things to do with my time. I can read all about what happens afterwards. What President ever accomplishes what they says they are going to do anyway? I struggle to find unbiased news, and watching either convention is anything but unbiased.

It was kinda funny watching Twitter last night during Obama’s speech. You could see everybody’s biases. The Democrats were cheering and the Republicans were bashing. I was just sitting back and laughing. I don’t consider myself a Democrat or Republican. I consider myself an Independent. I research all the candidates and pick the ones I like best. I have voted for both in the past. I do side with Democrats more often, and really don’t like what the Republicans have been doing with our country lately, so this year I will be voting mostly Democrat. That could easily change if the Democrats start doing stupid things.

We have had a Republican President for 8 years now, so I think it is time for a Democrat President. Having different leaders with different ideals is what makes out country great. One party having too much power all the time wouldn’t be a good thing. Many people in our country have different ideals, and the government should reflect that.

  • Juliana Hatfield

How did I miss the release Juliana Hatfield’s latest album last Tuesday?

I didn’t get into her when she was in the Blake Babies. I first got introduced to her when she was a member of the Lemonheads in the early 90s. She released Become What You Are during my freshman year of college. I don’t know if everybody feels this way, but most of my favorite music came out when I was in college. My roommate and I listened to that album constantly that year. We both fell in love with Juliana. I have every album she has released since those days. Some are great, some not so great, but I still love them all. I have listened to a few of her new songs on her MySpace, and the new albums sounds pretty good.

I will have to pick it up today.

Here is the first video from the album.

  • 1990s

I was just playing around with yearbookyourself and this one totally looks like I did in high school except for the hair color.

    Picture 1.png

Mullets were cool. Honest. My hair always had to be long enough to stick out the back of my football helmet.

What the hell were we thinking?

  • Olympics

The other night I actually watched some of the Olympics. I haven’t watched much of the Olympics this year, not because I don’t want to, but mostly because I don’t watch much “live” TV at all. If it’s not recorded on our Tivo or DVR, then I probably won’t watch it. I do like seeing some of the sports that we don’t get to see very often. It’s fun to see different people from around the world competing against each other.

I have tried to watch some of them online, but I find the site to be somewhat confusing, and the live streams have no commentary, so they are hard to watch, especially if it’s a sport that you are unfamiliar with. It would be nice if NBC’s online coverage was better, but I suppose most of their viewers watch them on TV, and that is probably where they make the most advertising money too.

  • He is Out (Hopefully)

So we game my Brother-in-law a three month noticed that we wanted him to move out. In that three months his didn’t look for a place at all. We were nice and gave him one more month, and he still hasn’t starting looking, and now that college is starting, all the cheap apartments are gone. When he got his current job he said it paid pretty good, so he quit his other part time job. This week we found out that his pretty good is only $8.50. I don’t know how a person could live on $8.50. I think him telling us was his way to try and buy more time here. A couple months ago he got a speeding ticket, so now his parents are making him pay his own insurance, he also got his second minor a couple months ago, so he has that fine to pay off, plus he has been putting off his student loans as long as possible and has to start paying on those. Basically after all his bills he would be left with $300 for rent and spending money. Not really enough to live off of. We kinda felt bad kicking him out, but he has known about it for months.

Today the Wife talked to her Aunt, and she agree to have him move in with her until January when a few of his bills will be paid off, and hopefully he finds a better job.

He should listen and follow his Aunts rules better than his sisters. I am sure she will charge something for rent and food. She wont put up with the phone ringing all hours of the night. I don’t think she will put up with his coming home at three in the morning and waking the whole house up. They have four dogs, they will wake the whole house up.

These are all things that my Wife has gotten on his case about, but he just ignores her.

My fingers are still crossed. I will believe it when it happens, but it is sure looking like it’s going to happen soon.
