• My Phone Rings

I totally agree with the xkcd comic today. I hate annoying ringtones. When you call my phone, it makes a “ringing” sound.

  • Palin’s Email

So the internet was all a buzz yesterday about Sarah Palin’s email getting hacked, if you can call it that. I wouldn’t take much of a hacker to get into her email if she used easy to find information for the password reset questions. Pretty much every web based email system has a way to reset your password. You just have to answer a couple questions that most people wouldn’t know, but if you are a public figure, you should realize that people are going to know more about you. This has happened many times to celebrities. You would think people would learn.

The bigger question should be what the hell is she using Yahoo for government emails? Why have that data on Yahoo’s servers? Shouldn’t she use government servers, and better yet some encryption? What if she had some “top secret” stuff in her email? A “real” hacker/terrorist, could have probably gotten access to her email without anybody finding out and kept on reading it.

Government officials really need to know that sending an unencrypted email is like sending a postcard. Hopefully this minor little mishap will teach them all that they need to be a little more secure.

  • Salsa Weekend

Back when we lived in the mobile home we had a garden in our back yard. It was kinda fun growing stuff, and getting awesome fresh vegetables in the fall. We didn’t bother planting it during the year in a half it took to sell it, and we haven’t planted a garden at our house yet. We probably won’t. We got enough room in the back yard, but the way that it’s landscaped, we don’t really have a good spot for a garden.

So three years without a garden means we ran out of salsa. After eating homemade salsa for so many years, I can’t stand any of the store boughten crap. I love salsa. I need salsa.

Yesterday we went to a local farmers market and put in an order for 25 pounds of tomatoes, so this weekend will be a salsa making weekend. I can’t wait to taste some good salsa again.

  • Made Me lol

I love left-handed Toons. If you follow my tumblelog you would know. I bet I link to them every week. I probably don’t mention my tumblelog enough. It has all my shared links and good stuff that I find interesting, but don’t feel like blogging about… anyway, here is today’s Left-handed Toon.

  • Rare Blog About Work

I hate when people complain that they don’t blog enough, so I won’t do that. I feel like I have been in a little rut lately. My mind is full of things I want to blog about, but when I sit down at my computer I get sucked into reading my feeds, and watching and listening to all my podcasts, and I never remember what I was going to blog about. Today I didn’t forget. I worked all day so it’s a rare blog about work.

Today was a busy ass day at work. One of our chemical feed systems broke down and had to be cleaned in order to be fixed. It took me a couple hours to clean it, which then makes a mess of the floor so you have to clean that too. I got it all cleaned up, then the mechanics fixed it and left a big mess on the floor. It pisses me off when people don’t clean up after themselves. It only took me ten minutes to clean up after them, but still, I hate leaning up after people.

So that’s what was on my mind today. Not much, but hey, at least it was something.

  • My Bandwidth Usage

There has been a lot of talk around the internets about Comcast’s bandwidth caps. They are going to start caping users soon at 250GB. While I think bandwidth caps are horrible, 250GBs is quite a bit. I think a person would have to work really hard to reach that amount.

I have been curious how much bandwidth I am using for quite some time. There is software you can use to find out with one computer, but my network is a little more complicated. I have five computers along with my XBox and Vonage router all using bandwidth. The only way to figure out bandwidth usage with all of my devices would be within the router. My router doesn’t have a way to monitor bandwidth. It’s a newer WRT54G that can’t be upgraded to the DD-WRT or Tomato Firmware. It has been really flaky lately though. It locks up a couple times a week. Yesterday it locked up five time, so I ordered a new one. This time I got a Linksys WRT54GL, which will support upgraded firmware.

In a couple of months I should know what my monthly bandwidth usage is. Then I will know had ridiculous Comcast’s caps are. My theory is they are caping their internet users to discourage them from using the internet to get their media, and encourage them to use their TVs more. It’s probably not that big of deal now, but more and more people are moving to the internet for their media content. As the quality of that content gets higher and higher, then more and more people will be approaching that cap, and not watching that cable TV that Comcast wants you to watch.

  • Last Brother-in-law Update

He is OUT!! He Finally moved out. He is now at his Aunt’s until January. Hopefully he grows up by then. It will be so nice not having to pick up after him, and having the phone ringing at all hours of the day and night. It seems so peaceful here already.

  • High School Memories

It has been 16 years since I was playing high school football. I remember it like it was yesterday. Every year when August comes around I miss it. Today I thought I would check and see how my old team is doing. It’s so weird looking at the football team now. New school, field, team name, coach, uniforms, conference, everything has changed. They don’t play any of the teams that we had great rivalries against. It’s just weird.

While I was checking them out, I saw of video of the marching band. I was also a band geek in high school. It brought me to tears when I saw that they were playing the same song that we played when we marched. It was a different version, and they look a hell of a lot better than we were, but it was awesome to see the tradition of The Phantom of the Opera is still alive.
