• Weekend Update

Not much happened this weekend. I worked all weekend, and tried to stay warm. It was well below zero all weekend. Leaving for work at 5:30 AM when it is -25º is not fun. It seems like we are out of the deep freeze for a while. It has warmed up to 2º already today.

Because of work I missed the New England vs. San Diego game. We listened to it on the radio. I don’t think I missed too much. I got home from work in time to catch the Green Bay vs. Giants game. That was a great game. I was rooting for Green Bay, but the Giants played a great game. I am hoping they can compete with New England and keep the Super Bowl close like they did week 17.

In geekiness, DirecTV actually added something useful to their DVRs. You can now remotely schedule a recording. I tried it from my phone and it magically worked. I’m not sure how often I will use this, but it’s cool that I can finally do it. Tivo has had this feature for years.

I also finally got a Grand Central account. I don’t know exactly what I am going to use it for, but you know me, I gotta have everything, especially if it is in limited beta. Grand Central gives you a phone number that you can pretty much do anything with. You can have it go right to voice mail, ring your cell phone, home phone, or both. It gives you filtering options. You can send calls from certain people to certain phones, or totally block certain calls. You can even make calls by just clicking on a link on the webpage, or add a call link to your site so people can call you and not discover your phone number. I am just not sure if I want to give out yet another number to my friends and family when I always have my cell phone with my anyways.

Anyways, I have 10 invites for Grand Central if anybody wants to try it out.

  • Clashes With Fame

So last night I discovered on Twitter that Clintus McGintus went to high school with the lead singer from The Format. I thought that was pretty cool. Most of you probably have never heard of The Format, but they are an up and coming band. I have seen them in concert and own one of their CDs. They are pretty good. You can check them out on Amazon.

That got me thinking if I grew up with anybody that is somewhat famous. I couldn’t think of any, but I am one or two degrees away from a few.

My best friend since first grade’s cousin is/was Brynn Hartman, the wife of Phil Hartman that killed him. I was shocked when I heard the news of the murder.

My college roommate went to high school and played football with former NFL player Jim Flanigan.

That’s about the extent of my connections to people with any kind of fame. Although, I did cook a meal for LeAnn Rimes once. She came into the restaurant that I worked at while I was going to school. I was actually mopping the lobby floor when she walked it. I didn’t recognize her at all. She was just a little thirteen year old girl. My coworkers recognized her and got her autograph. They even got one for me. She had a mushroom and onion streak. It was late at night and our dishwasher was off duty, so I had to wash her dishes too.

  • What I Want From Apple

Did Apple really need another laptop model? Sure the MacBook Air is thin and sexy. Sure Apple makes a lot of money selling sexy. I just don’t see the point of the MacBook Air. It is the same size as the MacBook, just thinner. I don’t know if people will pay $600 more just for skinny. Who am I kidding. I am sure a ton of people will, but I will not. What people really wanted was something smaller than 13″. Everybody always talks about how great the 12″ iBooks are. I think another 12″ laptop would be a hit.

What I want from Apple is more choices for desktops. I want a middle of the road desktop without a monitor. I have a first gen Mini. It works great, but it is getting close to needing an upgrade. I already have a two monitor setup and a KVM switch to switch to different computers. I don’t need or want another screen to look at. My choices are another low end Mini, or a high end Mac Pro. I want something in between. Once that happens I will be buying another Mac. Until then I will just be using my PC more.

  • Lambeau Field

A coworker of mine was at the Green Bay vs. Seattle playoff game over the weekend. He brought some pictures to work. They were amazing. Lambeau Field looked amazing. I think I need to plan a trip to Green Bay. I am not a huge Packer fan, but I love the Packers history. I love the history and mystique of Lambeau Field. It would be great to see that stadium in my lifetime. I also want to go to the Hall of Fame in Canton some time. The Broncos will be playing in Green Bay in four years. Maybe that year I can take a road trip to Green Bay and from there head to Canton. I doubt that sounds like fun for the wife. I might have to take my Brother instead.

  • Blue Skies, Broken Hearts – Next 12 Exits….

I have been a big fan of The Ataris for a long time. I, like many people, didn’t care much for their latest album. Apparently the band realized that too. On their current tour they are playing one of their best albums Blue Skies, Broken Hearts – Next 12 Exits…. in its entirety. Someone recorded one of the shows and posted it on YouTube in three parts. It’s Amazing.

  • NFL Playoffs

So the weekend was spent watching the NFL playoffs. Each day one team that I wanted to win won and one did not.

How can you not root for Favre and the pack playing in the snow? It was a bad start for them, but they turned it around.

I am pretty much sick of the New England Patriots. I was so hoping the Jags would pull out the upset. Frankly the Pats are so good nobody is going to beat them. I have been saying that all year, and it is still holding true.

Being a Bronco fan I am really starting to dislike the Chargers. I have never really hated them in the past, but Philip Rivers is such a poor sport. He is really getting on my nerve. Sadly the Chargers survived this week, but will get their asses handed to them next week against the Patriots.

I have never been a Cowboy fan. Probably because they are always good and have already won enough Super Bowls. I am glad they lost. Now we wont have to listen to any more Tony Romo/Jessica Simpson talk, and we get one more game in Green Bay. I am hoping Favre pulls out the upset against New England in the Super Bowl.

  • Bird Poop

Bird Poop, originally uploaded by tinkr.

Remember our bush out front that likes to collect birds? Well, underneath the bush is collecting bird poop. See all the stuff under the bush? Yeah, that’s all bird poop.

  • Pulled Over

I got pulled over today for running a stop sign. I didn’t really run it. I all but completely stopped. I don’t think I ever come to a complete stop when nobody is around. In the winter more so. The roads are glare ice. When I come to a complete stop it takes me a good 30 seconds to get enough traction to get moving again. Sure, that’s not a good excuse. I have no excuse. I didn’t come to a complete stop, but who does? On my way to lunch I saw five or six cars do exactly the same thing I did. Not to mention all the people that didn’t use their blinkers. They could seriously hire a hundred more cops and not cost the city any more money. My ticket was $100. It would be so easy for a cop to get five or six people in an hour. I saw that many people break the law in the fifteen minutes it took me to go out to lunch. Yeah, I am bitter right now. It just seem pretty petty for fining me $100 because I slowed down to 0.00000001 MPH and not o.ooooo.

  • Happy New Year

Happy New Year! I thought I would start the new year off with a new look on my blog. Here is a cartoon I ran across last week that I thought was rather funny, and appropriate for today.
