• Smoke Alarm Saved the House

Today I threw a potato into the microwave for lunch and went back to the computer room. Then I heard the smoke alarm blaring so I ran to the kitchen and my potato was in flames in the microwave. I wish I could have gotten a picture of it, but I was more worried about not burning the house down. I tried another potato and stopped it before it burst into flames. It was way overcooked after 8 minutes and was ready to burst into flames. The wife said she cooks potatoes for 10 minutes. I think there is something wrong with our microwave. That sucks because it is less that a year old, but it is so black from the fire I think I would rather buy a new one than try and clean it.

  • Windows Vista

I have played around with Windows Vista Beta a little but, but not that much.  So for the rest of the day all I am going to use is Windows Vista.  I have it installed in Parallels on my Macbook.  Now I wish I would have gotten 2 gigs of RAM for the MacBook.  Windows runs fine with 1 gig, but it is a little pokey.  2 gigs would be ideal to use Parallels.

So since this is a fresh install I am using IE 7 to post this.  Where is the spellcheck?  Why doesn’t IE 7 have spellcheck?  Firefox 2 does and they came out about the same time.

I am liking Vista so far.  It’s nice, but it’s no OS X.  It still has a lot of the annoying things that Windows always has had, but it seems to be an improvement so far.

  • Start Page

I am always playing around with different start pages.  Back in the day I made my own.  Then I used Google News for a while.  Now I pretty much just use The Google.  I have played with tons of new ones, but never seem to use them.  I have tried Google ig, MyYahoo, Netvibes, Protopage, Pageflakes, and others that I can’t remember.  Today I played around with YourMinis.  It’s pretty cool just like the rest of them, but I probably won’t use it.  I just want to get to my Google Reader and read my feeds.  I guess these cool start pages weren’t meant for me.  They are cool though.  Have you ever check out Goowy?  Cool page.  So, what’s your start page?

  • Bah humbug!

Can you believe it, I am sick of Christmas already?  Last weekend stores in the mall were playing Christmas music.  Christmas lights are already up and lit in many places.  Traffic is already getting crazy around the mall so I have started taking my “Christmas Route” home from work to avoid it.  My calender is telling me it is only November though.  Christmas should not start until Black Friday.  One month of it is plenty for me.  I don’t need two.

  • She Called It

Last night my wife said Rumsfeld would be canned if the Democrats win.  I didn’t think it would happen, but it looks like he is stepping down.  I guess she was right.

  • It’s Fun When Your Team Wins

I stayed up late last night watching the election coverage.  It’s so much funner to watch when your side is winning.  It was fun watching the Democrats dominate almost everywhere.  I didn’t think they had a chance at the Senate though, but slowly through the night the Republican lead was getting smaller and smaller.  I went to bed once I found out the Democrats won in Missouri.  I didn’t think they would have a chance in Missouri.  When I got up at 6:00 this morning everything was the same.  Still waiting on Virgina and Montana.  It’s really close.  Probably going to be a couple of recounts, but at least this year we have the lead before the recounts.  I like our chances.  No matter who wins though, it looks like Americans want a change.

  • Oh No

So this weekend my MacBook started doing the random shutdown thing that everybody has been talking about.  It’s kinda making me nervous.  The nearest Mac Store is four hours away.  I am upgrading the firmware now.  I hope it fixes the problem.

  • Reason #42 Why Being A Geek is Good

Are you sick of political ads yet?  I’m not.  I hear people complain about them all the time, but I have hardly seen any.  I guess that’s what TiVo, iPods, and the Internet are good for.  I watch all my TV on TiVo no commercials.  I don’t listen to the radio, only my iPod, no commercials.  I get all my News off the net, no commercials.  This is a good time of the year to be geeky.
