• My Blackberry Tour

I have had my Blackberry for four days now. I like it for the most part. It is no iPhone though. My iPod Touch is much more user friendly and easier to use, but the Blackberry is easily the best phone I have had, and can get. It is really nice to have access to the internet and apps without having to look for a wifi hotspot. The Wife got a pink Curve, and she really likes it. I think it feels kinda cheap. I was glad when my Tour came, and it didn’t feel as cheap. It’s pretty solid. The keyboard a little tough to get use to. I am use to my iPod Touch keyboard correcting my misstakes. One of my fingers covers three keys on the Blackberry keyboard. I was mistyping things all the time at firt. I am getting better and faster now. Like anything, it just takes some time to get use to.

There are a lot of Blackberry apps. Probably not as many as there is for the iPhone, but still enough. The bad thing is there isn’t one simple place where you can find all the apps. I have downloaded a few app stores, but they never seem to have the app I am looking for. Google seems to be the best place to search for apps.

I like the fact that I can use the GPS for free now. Previously I had to use Verizon’s program and had to pay $10 a month or $3 a day. I have tested a few turn by turn apps and have settled on amAze. It seems to be the most user friendly one to use.

I will be happy to use my Blackberry for the next two years. Who knows what phones will be like then. With any luck by then I might be able to get an iPhone, or maybe something even better.

  • New Phones

So it’s time again to upgrade our cell phones. This time we are both getting Blackberries since iPhones aren’t available around here. The Wife got hers yesterday, but I couldn’t because the phone I wanted two years ago was out of stock, so my upgrade date got pushed back a few weeks. I figured that would happen, and they said they couldn’t do anything for me in the store other then sell me the phone at full price.

Today I decided to email Verizon’s customer support to see what they could do. I few hours after I sent the email I got a call. It was the best customer service call I have ever taken. She had no problem upgrading me since it’s so close. She even put a rush on it to get it shipped out today. I should have it by Thursday or Friday.

I haven’t been a huge Verizon fan, but they have the best coverage around here, and that’s what count when it comes to a cell phone. I am a bigger fan now. Now I just hope they get iPhones in two years.

  • Jobs

Last Friday my supervisor at work retired after 44 years of work. I couldn’t imagine working at the same place for 44 years, but if I stay there until I retire I will be close to it. Chances are I will be too. I like my job, I make decent money, and I like this city.

I have only had two jobs in my life. Three if you count the paper route that I had before I was sixteen. I started my paper route when I was 11. Having a paper route takes lots of dedication. It only took 45 minutes every morning for me to do my route, but it had to be done EVERY morning. So from the age of 11 to 16, I was up at 6:00 AM every day to deliver my papers. There were time when I had to get a substitute, but then there were times with I substituted on other routes too.

I started working at a restaurant when I turned 16. I started as a dishwasher, and worked my way up to the top cook. That also took a lot of dedication because it involved working every weekend. I worked there for seven years, and only called in sick once. It was tough when the employees had to work shorthanded, so I never wanted to do that to them. I worked at that restaurant until I graduated college, and got my current job.

I am on my 12th year at my current job. It is also a job that required some dedication. It’s a 24 hour a day, seven days a week operation. Someone has to be there at all times, so it involves working nights, weekends, and holidays. I have taken a few more sick days at this job though. We get sick days, and working 12 hour shifts sick is no fun.

So I guess I am a creature of habit and don’t like change. Not many 34 year olds can say they have only had two jobs since they were 16. I will have to work until the age of 67 to get 44 years in. Who knows what age I will be able to retire at? I haven’t really looked into it much. Honestly I’m in no hurry to retire. I like to keep busy. I guess I could always find things to do, but I am afraid I will get bored retired. I don’t see myself being a Wal-Mart Greater either.
