• Spotlight For Windows

I love spotlight in OS X. I don’t use it to search for things a lot, but I am always using it to launch programs. It’s simple. I just hit Command+Space, type a few letters of the app I want to launch and bingo, the app in launched. When I am using my Windows PC it’s a pain in the ass searching through the Start Menu for the program I want to launch. Well, that is a thing of the past. Today I discovered Launchy. It works just like spotlight, but it’s for Windows. Now I can start any program with just a couple of keystrokes.

  • Don’t Call Me Four-Eye (Just Yet)

So lately I have been noticing my eyesight getting a little worse. It’s not too bad. I can read everything close up. I just have a problem reading fast food menus and the guide on the TV. So last week I went to the eye doctor for the first time ever. It was pretty cool. I found out my eyes weren’t that bad, but I am a little nearsighted. The Doc said I didn’t need glasses, but wrote me out a prescription just in case I wanted them. If If was bothering me that I can’t see very well. I think I am going to get a pair. It’s going to be weird, but it’s a pain in the ass not being able to see fast food menus.

  • The Wow Starts Now?

So Windows Vista came out today. Part of me wants to upgrade because I always want to have the latest and the greatest. I think I am going to wait a bit though. I played around with the beta of Vista, and it looks pretty cool, but doesn’t really add anything I don’t already have. I don’t use my Windows PC all that much. It does it’s job running my Windows Apps. I don’t think I would be gaining much upgrading to Vista, but I still want to. It’s killing me.

  • Great Shot

A guy at work this weekend was talking about this amazing shot by a UND hockey player or a crappy Minnesota goalie depending on your point of view. Today I found the shot on YouTube. Too bad the YouTube compression is so bad you can hardly see the puck.

  • Geek Work

As if my life wasn’t busy enough, my Mom just asked me if I could make a website for her work. Of course I said yes. I hope I can do a good enough job. My web coding skills aren’t the best. I know about enough to get by. I will get paid for it though, so that could be cool.

  • Part of Me…

Part of me wishes I had a more popular blog.

Part of me is glad I don’t.

Part of me wants to be open and blog about real personal stuff.

Part of me wants me to keep the personal stuff to me.

Part of me wishes I had the will and time to make a podcast.

Part of me knows that I am microphone and camera shy so the podcast thing wouldn’t work.

  • XBox Live and WordPress 2.1 Here I Come

Sometimes wish I could blog from the shower. I always have things to blog about in the shower. Once I am out of the shower I have nothing.

Right now I am debating whether or not to subscribe to XBox Live Gold. I probably will. My free subscription expires the end of the month. It’s kinda fun to play against people online. I just wish it wasn’t so spendy. It’s actually not that bad, but it will set us back $100. $50 per person for the year sounds like a lot, but it is only just over $4 a person per month.

Now I am off to upgrade to WordPress 2.1. If something breaks that’s why.

    **Update**
Wordpress 2.1 is up and running. You gotta love WordPress. It’s gotta be the easiest blogging software to install.

  • I Need to Read More

I always have a hard time to find time to read. It feels weird to me if I am not doing more than one thing at once. Right now I am listening to a podcast (Dawn and Drew), reading my rss feeds on one computer, and blogging on another. That’s three things. Books require all my attention hence I never get around to them.

This weekend I read a book at work. I am working nights, and they are very slow. I finally got around to reading King Dork by Frank Portman. It’s a great book. The best one I have read this year. So what if it’s also the only book I have read so far this year. It’s a great book. The first review on the back of the book nails it:

This book is for you if you’re in a band or wish you were, if you loved or hated The Catcher in the Rye, if you’ve ever spoken Francais or Franglais, or if your high school has or had a dumb mascot. Basically, if you are a human being with even a vague grasp of the English language, King Dork will rock your world.
-John Green, author of Looking for Alaska

If the name Frank Portman doesn’t ring a bell, Dr. Frank should….or maybe not, but it should. Dr. Frank is the lead singer of The Mr. T Experience. They are a great band that I have loved for many years.

Dr. Frank also has a blog. I have been reading his blog for years too. Now I just have to get a picture taken so I can be in the Dork Gallery.
