• Weekend With Crazy Family

We just got home from spending the weekend with my family. We went to the Water Park of America. It was pretty cool. They say it’s the largest indoor water park in the US. We had a great time in the water park, but I am a little sore now and have a black eye. Coming down one of the slides my face smacked into the back of the Wife’s head. That didn’t feel too good.

The worst part about the weekend was dealing with my family. I totally disagree with my Mom, Brother, and Sister-in-Law on most subjects is seems like. I just kept my mouth shut most of the time. They are so close minded it does no good to state my points. They are so against all prescription drugs. They think their only point is to make the drug companies money. I agree that drug companies push them to a point, but many people do actually need them for certain things. That have even bought into the whole antivaxxer movement. They believe all the non-sence that they cause autism. The funny thing is they all take a bunch of vitamins and herbal crap that pretty much only line the pockets of the salesmen.

They are also all Jesus freaks. They were talking about how good the movie Fireproof was. I normally couldn’t care less about what actors beliefs are, but I have a hard time with Kirk Cameron. I have seen some of his anti-evolution nonsense videos, so I refuse to watch anything he is in. It’s pretty save to say I wouldn’t like anything he ever does anyway.

For being Christians they are also so full of hate. They pretty much believe that anybody that isn’t American, white, straight, and not from California, are out to destroy our country. I had to bite my lip on many occasions for their idiotic comments.

Don’t even get me started on their love for Fox News. I sat through about 5 minutes of that crap and I had to leave the room. I’m sorry, I like my news to actually contain facts and you can keep your idiotic opinions to your self. I am smart enough to come up with my own thank you.

I love my family, but sometimes I think I am adopted.

  • Weekend of Shoveling and Hacking

What have I done this weekend so far? Let’s see. I shoveled, then I shoveled, after that I shoveled. Since I wont get my snowblower until Tuesday, I need to keep up with the shoveling so it doesn’t get out of hand like last weekend.

I also tried to get my truck started. Last weekend when it got buried with snow the engine got packed full of snow and it hasn’t started since. I got it into the garage and got it warmed up, but it still didn’t start. I should try changing the plugs, but man, they look are to get to, and it’s pretty damn cold out to be doing it. I think I would rather pay someone to get my truck running again. I can’t and it can’t get in until Tuesday, so I will worry about it next week. I wish I could fix cars like I can fix computers.

I did get a chance to work on other people computers last night. Not that I like to do it too often, every once it a while isn’t too bad. Her Aunt had her basement flood a few months back. The computer was up, but the whole surge protector was under water, so they were sure what was working and what wasn’t.

Turns out, everything was working fine. They also finally got cable out in the boonies where they live, so I hooked them up with one of my old wireless routers and got their network setup and running.

They also conveniently forgot their login password for their desktop PC. I never forget my passwords, so I have never really had the opportunity to crack a windows login password. It’s actually pretty easy. What stumped me a little is that it is a little different on XP Pro than it is on XP Home.

  • Wicked Weekend

I finally have some time to post about the weekend. Wicked was pretty good, and had some amazing singers in it. I have seen a handful of musicals in my life, and I have enjoyed every one. Some people think going to musicals might mot be very manly, but they really are pretty cool. It’s not like they are operas or anything. Every musical that I have ever been to has had a great storyline with some amazing singers.

The worst part about the weekend was the driving. We wanted to head down there Friday, but the roads were too icy, and I chickened out and turned around after almost going in the ditch. The drive back was a little better, but not by much. There was a multi-car pile up on the interstate, so we were detoured for twelve miles on some narrow icy road in the middle of nowhere.

We got home pretty late and then I had to work early the next morning. I still feel like I am trying to catch up on sleep.

  • Off to See Wicked

I have this weekend off, but it going to be a busy one.

We are heading back to our home town for the weekend.

My Mom recently bought a piano, and she wants to get rid of her china hutch to make room for the piano, so we are taking the hutch. It would be tough to pack for the weekend and get everything in the cab of my truck, so we rented a trailer for the hutch. They wanted $133 to rent a trailer to haul one way, but only $15 a day if we bring it back to the same place we rented it from. So we will be towing the trailer there and back.

So we will be spending Friday night and Saturday with friends and family. Then Sunday we have tickets to see Wicked down in Minneapolis. Erica went to it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, so I am sure we will have fun.

We will then have a long drive back to get home in time for work on Monday morning. I am hoping the weather is good. So far they are just say flurries for Sunday.

  • Gopher Game

My wife got free tickets to the Gopher game this Saturday. She doesn’t want to go, so I am taking my Brother. He lives in the Cities, so we will be hanging with him this weekend. I have never been to a college football game before. It’s actually been years since I even watched one on TV. It should be fun just hanging out with my Brother and his Wife for the weekend anyway. It’s probably the last weekend of the year away without having to worry about road conditions. Should be fun.

  • Vacation is Hard Work

We got back from our little vacation last night. Why does it seem that no matter how relaxing vacation is, you are always whipped when you get home? We didn’t do a whole lot on vacation. We stayed in some pretty awesome cabins, Three bedrooms, full kitchen, and hot tub. Saturday we spent the day on the lake in a pontoon. I was the only one lucky enough to avoid the sunburn. Sunscreen is my best friend. I am glad I have today and tomorrow off to recover from vacation, and catch up with everything. Too bad it’s raining out today. I have a lot of yard work to get done. Oh well, guess I will check out some of the Olympics instead.

  • Sick of Being Sick

I had all sorts of stuff to blog about going into the weekend. Then I got sick, and slept the whole weekend. Now I got nothing. I’m still a little sick and sleeping more than I am use to. Another couple days, and I should be back to normal, or as normal as I get that is.

  • Weekend Mess

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the mess we came home to.

My Wife had a little list of things for her Brother to do. It was nothing crazy. Just keep the house cleaned up, do your dishes, lock the doors when you leave, get the mail, and no parties.

He wasn’t home when we got home, doors were all unlocked, mail boxed was packed full, not a clean dish in the cupboard. He didn’t do anything on the list. I knew there was trouble as soon as we drove into the garage. It smelled like a bar. It reeked of smoke and alcohol. He clammed the sticky alcohol smelling substance spilt all over the garage was water, Yeah, whatever. I had to get the hose out to clean the garage. At least it was in the garage and not the house. It was so obvious he had a party, yet he still denies it.

The good thing about it is that it pissed my Wife off and she is even more likely kick him out by August 1st.

  • Weekend Recovery

Wow, it’s Friday already. I am still catching up on stuff from the weekend. It was a crazy five day weekend. It started with a sad day at my friends fathers funeral last Friday. Then Saturday we spent the day with the wife’s family, grilled out, and had a good time. Sunday we headed up north for a three hour drive for my cousin graduation. It was my youngest cousin, so it was the last graduation in our family for quite some time. Monday was the usual Memorial Day services. We have been doing the same thing for Memorial Day since I remember. My Uncle died in Vietnam, so Memorial Day has always been about him. After the cemetery visits we went out to my Aunt and Uncle’s lake cabin. It was a crappy ass day, so we just sat inside and ate too much. Tuesday we headed down to the Cities for the Honda Civic Tour. It was at the Myth which is a pretty cool place for a concert. It was a sellout so the place was packed. We saw Phantom Planet, The Hush Sound, and of course Motion City Soundtrack. We actually left after Motion City Soundtrack, so we missed Panic at the Disco. We have seen Panic before, they are good, but there was no way they were going to be better than Motion City. We had a four hour drive ahead of us and wanted to get a head start. We finally got home at 2:00 AM, and were up at 6:00 AM for work. This weekend should be much more relaxing. I have today and Monday off, so it’s a four day weekend. It’s starting to feel like I never work.

  • Funeral on Friday

We just got a phone call and one of our friend’s Dad died. It’s kinda weird having a friend’s Dad die. I guess it’s just another sign that I am getting old. He was rather young, only 61, but he didn’t take very good care of himself. He drank like a fish and smoked like a chimney. He was a Vietnam vet and the stories really came out when he got drunk. He had throat cancer and had his voicebox removed eight years ago. He wasn’t supposed to drink or smoke after that, but he kept on going. It’s people like him, and my Grandpa that encourage me to try and stay healthy. It’s not fun getting old, but I am sure it’s worse when you are struggling with health problems too.

The funeral is on Friday, so we will be heading out of town on Friday and won’t be back until Wednesday. It’s going to be a long time away from home. We have the funeral on Friday, my Cousin’s high school graduation on Saturday, our usual Memorial Day spent with our family on Monday, and then the Motion City Soundtrack concert on Tuesday. All out of town events. It will be a busy extra long weekend away from home.
