RIP Tony Sly
One of my rock heroes died today. I’ve been a No Use For A Name fan since the early 90s. I own all their albums. I’m lucky enough to have seen No Use… in concert once, and Tony performing his solo music once. 41 is way too young to go. No details have been released yet on the cause of death. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that it’s just a big hoax, but I kind of doubt it. Here are some videos to remember the great Tony Sly, and his band, No Use For A Name.

How to build a bookshelf (with your penis)?
I don’t think I will be following these instructions on building a bookshelf for a few reasons. First I’m a bit bigger than 3.4”, and second, I’m not nearly has good with a saw.

Fuck You Aurora
I kind of forgot about the Alkaline Trio song “Fuck You Aurora” until today. It was probably one of my favorites off their 2000 album Maybe I’ll Catch Fire. The song most likely refers to Aurora, IL, but recent events have sure changed the meaning of this song to me. Here are the Lyrics:
My, my what a mess we’ve made
Of our pretty little heads these days.
It appears a heavy wind’s blown through here recently.
Best wishes have been made for you.
You never had no say it’s true.
You have to be the cutest gravedigger I’ve ever seen.
And all your lonely nights
In the city of lights are much like
All these crowded bars I so often find my stupid self-stumbling through.
My, my what a mess was made of my head
When I heard what you’d been through that day.
It appears a violent storm’s passed through you recently.
Letters meant to be sent have been torn.
The phone lies off the hook, on the floor.
All these "I’m sorry"s and "I miss you"s are useless.
I fucked this one up long ago.
And all your lonely nights
In the city of lights are much like
All these crowded bars I so often find my stupid self-stumbling through.
Fuck you Aurora, you took my only friend.
And although it’s all my fault,
The blaming myself had to come to an end. So I say:
Fuck you Aurora, you took my only friend.
You won’t catch me behind the wheel
Of a Chrysler ever again.
My, my what a mess we’ve made
Of our precious little lives these days.
It appears a big fucking tornado has twisted us up recently.
Best wishes have been made for you.
You never had no say it’s true.
You have to be the cutest gravedigger I’ve ever seen.
And all your lonely nights in the city of lights are much like
All these crowded bars I so often find my stupid self-stumbling through.
Fuck you Aurora, you took my only friend.
And although it’s all my fault,
The blaming myself had to come to an end. So I say:
Fuck you Aurora, you took my only friend.
You won’t catch me behind the wheel
Of a Chrysler ever again -
New Music Saturday: The Wonder Years
Yeah, I know it’s not Saturday, but it’s close enough. The Wonder Years are another band that are pretty popular in my world, but I don’t know how popular they are in the real world. This week they released a video to a new song that is going to be included with a book that they are releasing titled “Living Room Song”. I’m really digging it. Sometimes the simplest videos are the best.

My take on the Aurora tragedy
I’ve been reading Twitter all day, but couldn’t come up with words that haven’t already been said about today’s tragedy. I use to live in Aurora. Now that city will forever be attached to this horrible event just like Littleton is.
What drives me nuts about these events is how different groups are quick to blame, or use the tragedy to force their agenda. People will blame video games, movies, TV, or even Marilyn Manson. The right blames gun control and believe this wouldn’t happen if everybody was carrying a gun. The left thinks we need more gun control to keeps the guns off the streets.
I’m not a gun guy, but I think our gun laws are probably just fine. With the exception to assault rifles that is. Is there a logical reason to own an assault rifle? Stricter gun laws would only punish the 99.9% of the responsible gun owners. The criminals will always find their way to get guns. We shouldn’t let dumbasses limit the rights of honest Americans.
In reality we will probably never know what causes these tragedies, but one thing we could try is not making these guys famous. The cable news networks are always looking for big stories, so when something like this happens they sensationalize the shit out of them, turning the shooter into a celebrity. This can’t be good, and a simple change in reporting could prevent future shootings without taking away any innocent person’s rights.
The sad reality is that this is the cost of freedom. As long as we have our freedoms, things like this are going to happen. To put it into perspective, there are probably 100s of people killed in car accidents daily, and who know how many horrific events that happen in other countries that don’t make our news.
Also, did you notice that the terrorism word hasn’t come up? Probably because it was a white guy, but that’s another story.

Out-of-context clips failing to make Mr. Wizard look like a dick
I ran across this video on io9 of out-of-context clips of Mr. Wizard being a dick. Mr. Wizard was so great, that even the out-of-context clips barely make him look like a dick. It’s funny that someone tried to make him look like a dick, but it’s more fun to get a glimpse back into my childhood. I remembered every single one of these episodes. Mr. Wizard was my favorite as a kid. I could never get enough of Mr. Wizard’s World.

New Music Saturday: We Are the In Crowd
I’ve been a fan of We Are the In Crowd for what seems like forever. In my world they are a pretty big band, and I assume most people know about them. In reality, that’s probably not true. This video is their latest off their debut full length album, Best Intentions.

Monday through Friday jobs suck; Goodbye Digg
I don’t know why people like Monday through Friday jobs so much. I worked my rare Monday through Friday this week and it sucked. I would take my nights and weekends over Monday through Friday any day. My normal shifts are 12 hours, and usually only two or three days in a row at most. Working five days in a row is a killer. Sure they were only eight hour days, but still five days in a row sucks, and now I only have a two day weekend. Normally my weekends off are always three day weekends.
I feel like I had no time for podcast listening, RSS reading, or Twitter all week. Thankfully I’m back to my normal schedule next week.
In other news, I logged into Digg for the first time in years, and dugg my last article. It was fun while it lasted, but like everything, it has an ending.

How we use to buy music
This video brings back so many memories. Remember waiting in line until 12:00 AM on Tuesdays to pick up your favorite album seconds after it was released? Remember buying CDs in those long boxes? Remember spending actual cash in stores? Remember being cool with your mullet and stone washed jean jacket?
Yeah, that was totally me back in the day, except I wasn’t a big enough fan of Guns N’ Roses to wait in line. I have those albums. I just didn’t wait in line for them.
(Thanks for the memories mental_floss)
